So, I’ve been getting questions from a few people about what I’ve been doing with regard to exercise and nutrition. To simplify things, I decided to stick a bunch of links/info all in one place.
First of all, the gym I’ve been going to is called Jogo. Check out the website for a complete rundown of what they do, including pictures of workouts (see the “News” section) and a schedule. Also, if you decide to give it a shot, TELL EMILIE THAT CAMERON WATTERS SENT YOU.
The main reason I’m there is for CrossFit. CrossFit is a nationwide fitness cult movement founded by Greg and Lauren Glassman. It has a sizable following in the law enforcement and military communities. The website is extensive, so here are some quick hits that cover the basics:
What is CrossFit
Sample Workout #1 (”Helen”)
Sample Workout Video #2 (”Linda”)
Nutritionally, I’ve been following the Zone Diet, HOWEVER, I’ve also eliminated pretty much all bread/grain and starch (rice, potatoes, etc.).
Pandora.
Setup personalized Internet radio stations based on favorite bands or songs and Pandora will play music that is similar to the music you seeded the station with.
It’s been a great way to get my 80s music fix without having to spend a pile of $$ on one-hit-wonders.
Oh, and it’s completely free (and legal).
I guess the short version would be this: I enjoy writing, quite a lot, in fact. But I abhor writing (including mine) that that sucks. I don’t have time to write well, at least not at the moment. So, you until that changes, not much will get posted here.
If you’re simply checking this site to meet a borderline-voyeuristic need, my fitness log might be more your speed (WARNING: Includes pictures of me in my underwear). The writing is plain but functional.
Anyway, just thought it was fair to give those of you that check daily (Hi, Mom!) a heads up.
Sure, it’s theologically a mess. That’s been covered.
What boggles my mind, though, is that anyone thinks it’s well-written. Even ignoring the theological issues, it’s downright painful to read. It was so bad, I couldn’t bring myself to continue past the second chapter.
Joel Spolsky”
Um… excuse me? Hello from Seattle? That has, I’m afraid, none of the same resonance. It evokes nothing. Boeing and rain, maybe. Kurt Cobain’s unhappiness.
For some reason, this essay evoked a picture of the hapless middle-aged dork with a hat, zinc oxide on his nose, an inflatable lounge wearing 20-yrs out of style swimwear attempting to woo the beautiful ladies away from the handsome, muscular surfer.
David Heinemeier Hansson: “Don’t be a hero.”
In other words, stop being so afraid of calling it quits. You’re playing to win the full season, not a single game. Every time you play the hero card, you’re jeopardizing the next game. Heroics are for when you have no other choice. When you can afford to take on tremendous risk because there’s no alternative.
Food for thought…
Dave Winer: “We make [crappy] software“. Everybody does. Sometimes, this is something we forget, and our expectations get out of whack.
Marc Hedlund: Jedi build their own lightsabers
A great post on which parts (if any) of your product to farm out to vendors/partners. The Joel Spolsky post he links to is also a great read on the subject.
