Dirt Cheap (< $250) Tower Camera for Rugby, Football, Soccer, etc…

Both my boys play rugby and I wanted to be able to capture footage of their matches. I’m particularly interested in high-angle views that shows most, if not all, of the players and are more useful for tactical analysis and post-match review of successes and mistakes.

Blackbirds (2) vs Ahwatukee (3) — Arizona High School D1 Semi-Final

This one is the full length of the match, minus half time. Because iMovie is broken, I had to use a much more rudimentary method of assembling the footage so I couldn’t speed up the slow, boring transitions to scrums, lineouts and restarts after scoring.

Arrowhead vs Ahwatukee

Unfortunately, it’s black and white. There is, according to Apple Support, a bug in macOS Sierra and/or the most recent version of iMovie on macOS Sierra that causes iMovie to mishandle certain video files such that those video files are washed over with the color red. It makes them completely un-watchable. Until that bug is fixed, the only reasonable-looking output is black and white.
